Autumn Skye Morrison
"For as long as I can remember, I knew my mission on this planet was to share inspiration. As soon as I was old enough to hold a paintbrush in my hand, I began making art, and I have barely put the brush down since. Painting has taken me to distant lands around the world, and to the furthest reaches of my innermost heart and imagination.
I paint in a dance between divine grace and conscious attention, and strive to "get out of the way" to allow each painting to speak thru me. With every brushstroke, I witness worlds unfold before me. Painting is my stillness and my rhythm, my teacher and my lover, and it never ceases to surprise and amaze me. Each canvas takes me on a journey, and as my paintbrush follows, I am always led back to my centre.
In any creative expression, there is a profound voice that speaks through us when we release judgment during the process. Remembering this, I strive to move beyond my mind, and get out of the way to allow that grace to come through. With every brushstroke, I witness beings come to life and worlds unfold before me. I realize the art is not born from me, but through me, and in this understanding I am both humbled and empowered. Painting is my stillness and my rhythm, my teacher and my lover, and it never ceases to surprise and amaze me. Each canvas takes me on a journey, and as my paintbrush follows, I am always led back to my centre.
I believe that the role of the artist is especially crucial at this challenging and exciting time, while the world is at the precipice of momentous change. We have an opportunity to transmute the shadow and pain that we witness in the world around us into visions of wholeness. Artists are map-makers, and those maps can help guide humanity forward into new and positive ways of seeing and being.
And so, I offer each of my paintings as a mirror; a reminder of our pure and good human heart, as well as our timeless divine spirit."
Autumn Skye was born in 1983, on a maple syrup and blueberry farm on the Parsborro Shore of Nova Scotia. Her family gradually moved west, with her father settling in the Rocky Mountains and her mother in the temperate rain-forests of the BC Coast. Spending her youth within these incredible landscapes, she developed a deep wonder for the magic and richness of nature, and since she was old enough to hold a pencil, has been transmuting this inspiration through art making. With a curious and creative imagination, and she was always encouraged and supported to express herself artistically.
Her meticulous, heart-centred, and poignant work continues to gain ever widening recognition, attracting collectors and students from around the globe. As a self taught artist, she has dedicated tens of thousands of hours in the exploration of creativity, continuing to develop her own unique technique. Her style gracefully weaves together refined realism and iconic imagery, with profound symbolism and subtle geometries.
Now, between journeys to explore, show, teach, and share inspiration worldwide, Autumn Skye lives and paints in her home on the Northern Sunshine Coast of BC. From her studio, she overlooks a sweeping expanse of ocean, mountains, and sky. She considers herself among the blessed of the blessed, and strives to support her ever blossoming community through inspiration and creative empowerment.
PAINTING PROCESS DESCRIPTION:
Working on your own canvas, you will be supported and guided step-by-step to paint your own Soul Portrait, a personal journey into the Creative Self. Working in layers of acrylic paint and translucent glazes, you will be invited to look deeply into yourself and discover new elements that embellish your portrait, and bring depth and personal symbolism into your piece.
Autumn Skye offers attentive and comprehensive art instruction, giving balanced emphasis on cultivating creative intuition, as well as developing skilled technique.
Autumn Skye seeks to share her own creative process, which allows the artist “to release judgment, move past our mind, breathe deep into the process, and find bliss in each step. We realize that we are boundlessly assisted in the authentic & heart-centered expression of our personal creative path.”
All painting levels welcome!
Throughout the week we'll nurture and support our bodies with daily yoga with the wonderful teacher Una of "Bella Retreats". Leisure time on the beach, in the hot tub, or walking in the coastal forests, will further relax, deepen, and inspire our journey. Delicious and gourmet plant-based meals will be lovingly prepared with fresh and local ingredients by the amazing team of Earth Mama Love. We're honored and excited to include Master Herbalist and creator of Holistic Body Therapy, Andrea Shanti. At this year's retreat, she will guide you on a journey of creating your own natural essence inspired by your personal aspiration. Andrea will also be available for private hands-on massage and healing sessions through out the retreat. Marnie Recker will be joining us again, bringing her grace, humour, sensitivity, and expert eye to photograph the process of our journey in Soul Portraits throughout the week.
Una is an artist, yogini, world traveler and inspired instigator. She earned a degree in Fine Art from the University of Colorado at Boulder, and her Masters degree in Education at the University of Denver, but ultimately learned the most traveling the world on a solo journey that lasted two years and took her to 22 countries. While in Costa Rica, she discovered the Nosara Yoga Institute, which allowed her to become certified with Yoga Alliance as well as find her new calling as a yoga teacher. She originally used yoga as a way to balance the demands of teaching, but it soon became much more than that. Yoga became a way of life for Una and making the shift from art teacher to yoga teacher came naturally. Now, she combines her love of art, yoga and travel by teaching workshops and organizing retreats all around the world. As a yoga teacher, Una teaches at a gentle, conscious pace that allows beginners to feel comfortable, while offering challenging sequences and poses for all levels. Una inspires students to explore the connection between movement, breath and mindful awareness in the body. She believes that a slow conscious yoga practice can allow the physical, mental and spiritual realms to merge into one.
Andrea is a master herbalist and proprietor of Holistic Body Therapy, an internationally distributed line of wild-crafted and plant-based health products. Certified in shamanic studies, yoga, and massage, Andrea leads classes in creative empowerment and natural medicine.
With Andrea’s guidance, you’ll create an individualized natural essence inspired by your own personal aspiration. Perhaps you want to bring self-acceptance and compassion into your daily life. Perhaps you’d like to ignite your intuition and imagination. A personalized potion is a powerful catalyst, reminder, and building block of vitality and flourishing.
*Andrea will also be available for private hands-on healing sessions through out the retreat.

"The results of the paintings created by all of us including those who had never painted before speak to the quality of the instruction. It always felt like she was available at all times with positive and impactful tips. Her easy way and master of skills came from an inspiring place and kept me engaged in the process and excited to discover painting and creativity in new ways."
"The retreat went above and beyond expectation. It was truly a heart opening and bliss-filled experience. I learned so much from Skye, Una and all the people involved. I feel I am returning home with new skills and new insight." Emily Kell.
